Summarize any YouTube video, without giving up your privacy.

A Chrome side panel that turns the video you're watching into a clean summary with clickable timestamps — so you can jump straight to the part that matters. No account. No server. No tracking.

One-time purchase. No subscription, no recurring fees.

Two things to know before you buy
  • You bring your own Anthropic API key. TubeGist calls Claude with your key, stored only on your device. That also means you pay Anthropic directly for usage — typically cents per summary on the low-cost Haiku model. Get a key at console.anthropic.com.
  • It installs as an unpacked extension right now. TubeGist is not on the Chrome Web Store yet — you download a .zip and load it via chrome://extensions in Developer mode. Instructions are included with your purchase.

What you get

Everything runs locally in your browser.

One-click summaries

TL;DR, key points and notable moments — each tagged with a timestamp.

Timestamps that actually seek

Click any [mm:ss] in the summary and the video jumps there.

Full transcript view

Every line is a jump link, so you can scan a long video and navigate it fast.

Your language

Summarize in English, 繁體中文, Español, 日本語 and more — independent of the video's caption language.

Works on Shorts too

Regular videos and Shorts are both supported.

No servers involved

Transcripts and summaries never touch our infrastructure, because there isn't any.

How it works

Three steps, about two minutes.

  1. Install TubeGist by loading the unpacked extension (instructions included with purchase).
  2. Open Settings and paste your Anthropic API key. There's a Test key button, so you know it works before you rely on it.
  3. Open any YouTube video, click the TubeGist icon, hit Summarize.

Free vs Pro

Try it before you pay for it.

Free

Up to 3 summaries per day. Every feature is available — only the daily count is limited.

Pro — $9 once

Unlimited summaries, unlocked with a license key. No subscription.

Questions people ask first

Why do I need my own API key?

Because there is no server in the middle. TubeGist sends the transcript straight from your browser to Anthropic using your key, so nothing passes through us — and there's no subscription needed to cover infrastructure, because there isn't any. The trade-off is that you pay Anthropic for your own usage.

How much does the API usage cost me?

It depends on video length and the model you choose. On the default low-cost Haiku model a typical summary costs cents, not dollars. Exact usage is visible in your Anthropic console.

Does it work on videos without captions?

No. TubeGist reads the transcript YouTube already provides. If a video has no captions in any language, there is nothing to summarize.

Is it on the Chrome Web Store?

Not yet. Today it installs as an unpacked extension from a .zip file. If that's a dealbreaker for you, wait for the store release rather than buying now.

What data do you collect?

None. There is no account, no analytics and no backend. Your API key and preferences stay in your browser's local storage. See the privacy policy.
